BladeEnc for Mac Unsupported!
This product is unsupported. It won't be updated anymore.
BladeEnc is a MPEG 1 Layer III (MP3) encoder based on the ISO reference code.
It makes MP3 files from AIFF, WAV and raw PCM files. It supports many bitrates,
from 32 to 320 kbps. Best of all, it's completely free with source code available.
The author of the encoding engine is Tord Jansson.
I have only made the Macintosh specific part.
My program acts as a wrapper to the original BladeEnc. Its "around" the original BladeEnc encoding
engine and it makes it possible to use BladeEnc on Mac. Because the original BladeEnc only has a
command line interface, this was necessary to get BladeEnc to run on Macs.
Read two reviews about Macintosh MP3 encoders here and
here.

ATPM gave BladeEnc 1.2 a rating of Very nice. Read the article.
[22.1.2001] New to version 1.4: upgraded to BladeEnc engine 0.92.6. This hopefully fixes the crashing bugs people have been experiencing in the end of the encoding process.
[25.10.2000] New to version 1.3: fixed bugs with spaces in path or file names. I hope this makes BladeEnc a lot nicer to use. Also changed the preferences file format, so please discard your old preferences file. The new preferences file isn't a text file anymore, so it can't be easily edited by hand.
BladeEnc has a new, cool icon! It has been made by Reinhard Bockhorst, and it's really nice. Thanks for him.
And also thanks a lot for all you other icon artists there for your contributed works.

You don't need this if you just want to make MP3 files.
Requirements
- MacOS 7.5.3 or later
- PowerMac
- 1.7 MB of free RAM
Features
- Many bitrates: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256 and 320 kbps
- Many sample rates: 48, 44.1 and 32 kHz
- Drag & drop support (drag AIFFs or WAVs on BladeEnc to encode them)
- Control over most original BladeEnc options
- Free, GNU lesser general public license
Some things to note
- BladeEnc overwrites files with the same name as the output file
- Input file names must be less than 28 characters
- Cannot specify output file (mp3) name, though the original BladeEnc supports that
- Poor support for raw PCM encoding options
- BladeEnc will try to encode any kind of file thinking they are RAW samples (if the file isn't in AIFF or WAV format).
- Don't set BladeEnc's memory allocation below 1700 kB or it will crash.
